I have some general folders into which any user can upload an image. Is it possible to show the username of the uploader? Either as a caption
"Uploaded by ..."
or store it in the tag for that particular image?

More generally, can you point me to where I can set the default tags for images (ie from exif information) when they are uploaded?

you can add this in the admin/upload/tfu_upload.php.

at the bottom you see some code where e.g. the Tags are read - there you could write the caption too.
The easiest way would be to add the user name at the filename and twg uses the filename as caption.
