Hi

This looks like a great gallery program because you can have pictures on a remote directory (Just what I have on my home NAS). I installed it but this feature doesn't work or I get the following error below. I browsed around on the web and it seams that this "URL file access is disabled...." is the reason.

Is this the reason for only getting "black" pictures?, is is this that need to be turned on on my hosted server or is this something that should be turned on on the NAS?

or am I doing something else wrong?

Is there any work around for this? or is it only the hosting provider that can turn it on?

Thanks for you help

There is no workaround:

URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration

you have to ask your hoster to change the configuration. Remote picture support needs a listing of the remote url.

I just went back to search on my hosting providers support site and they said as following.

1. Make your own php.ini and put it in your root
2. In the php.ini add following allow_url_fopen = On
3. Then in .htaccess add the following text suphp_configpath /home/username

hope this helps somebody out at least it works for me now!

Hopefully this is not a big security problem?!

No - because if you have a script that is bad then you already have it ;).

It's a network traffic issue. You load files from a remote server ...
Hosters want to avoid this traffic by turning this off.
