Is there a way to have a protected folder that does not shows the folder name? (an empty foldername.txt?)

And also, how do I get rid of the tiny padlock picture beside the folder name?

an empty foldername.txt should work. you can e.g. try the new user login mode from 1.7.6. There you can hide protected galleries.

Which padding do you mean. You can use webdeveloper to find the css stype to do the space.
