yes they can - a group is only a dynamic way to select the profile depending on the user.

Hi Michael, is there any way I can put an option on the login/registration page to sort the users into either group? for instance If I have a user that wants their uploads to be private, is it possible to have them join the 'private' group with an option on the login/signup. Bearing in mind I'm a novice at all this ( as you well know ! lol ) so I'm looking for the easiest method possible.

hi - you would have to extend the login module of joomla - because JFU is not connected to this.

You would have to know php for sure + how to program Joomla.

Because you have to save this information during registration and later on use this information in JFU. So both components would have to be extended.
