So for my gallery I'd like to have the captions shown below the thumbnails. If no caption is entered I would like the filename to show. Is there anyway to do this? How do I get captions showing in the thumbnail view to begin with?

file name is actually default.

Only if you have too much numbers in the filename it is not used. The number can be configured.

Simply look in the config.php or on the website of the right parameter.

Same for the name on the thumbnail - download the mexico example there you find the setup.

So I've added an image.txt to each directory containing:
<div class="twg_text">&nbsp;</div>

and now I get the filenames below the thumbnails. I entered a caption for several of the images and they displayed fine. The only problem is that once I logged out, the captions went away. If I log in they are back. How can I get captions to show for all users, even un-authenticated ones?

Interesting - because this is not the way to do it at all.
I have no idea actually why your change does something at all ;).

$show_caption_on_thumbs = false;

to

$show_caption_on_thumbs = true;

would do it the way I have implemented it ;).
then the captions shown on the detail page are shown on the thumbnail page like in the mexico example.

Do you have any idea why if I'm logged in I see the caption I entered, and if I'm not I see the filename?

I've been able to remove the image.txt now and it still prints something below the pictures at least. Think there might have been a caching issue with my browser during my testing last night(used multiple different browsers today though checking which caption is showing).

Yes, I've gone through and configured everything. I just cleared the cache of twg(image and session). I then logged in to twg, changed one of the captions. The caption showed fine when i went back to that page. I logged out and it immediately changed back to just the filename.

There is no red X and the cache appears to be working.

Yes, the same thing still happens.

An even further oddity is that if i click on the thumbnail(wrong caption) the full size image has the right caption. If i then go up a level to view thumbnails again the thumbnail has the right caption, at least until i surf away and come back.

I can't seem to post urls so that's a bit of an issue. Spam filtering or some such on the forums.

found the problem!

I only load the xml data for a folder in the thumbnail view but don't make it available to my function that reads the captions. After the next request the data is available and then it works.

I have fixed this in 1.7.3 that will be the next release ...
