I inserted a sample filename.txt and it tried to work as in the FAQs but something has saved my previous directory information, the program reports the directory cannot be found, and shows a few of the old thumbnails....

1. What do I need delete?
2. Do the thumbnails and small images need new names or is the prefix stripped from them as well (I assume it is so).

--- attempt 2 ---
I also renamed the first folder displayed to "999_2004-xx-xx_YoshikosHouse" yet it showed up at the start of the folders after renaming. The second folder was "2005-04-12_YoshikoAlan_1Month" so it wasn't alphabetical.

So what is your question now. Your post jumps around a lot. You did not even mention what you want to do.

Renaming a folder is only a good idea if you store comments/captions .. in the directory and not in the xml directory. There is a howto about this as well.

sort the albums by filename in the order you like with a prefix e.g. 000___

(6 characters - the first 3 for sorting and then 3 ___)

this will be removed. Or use a foldername.txt

See howto 6 !

In the first post I had this:

--- attempt 2 ---
I also renamed the first folder displayed to "999_2004-xx-xx_YoshikosHouse" yet it showed up at the start of the folders after renaming. The second folder was "2005-04-12_YoshikoAlan_1Month" so it wasn't alphabetical.

Why didn't that work? Is there something to delete?

-------
Using filename.txt will be more convenient but, again, refer to my first question. It didn't work either.

BTW I did have it as 6 characters
9 9 9 _ _ _
at the start of the file name.

You are NOT the man who breaks a software.

We talk about FOLDERS!!!

You should stop mixing stuff!

And filename.txt does not exist (I was talking about foldername.txt) - This is not needed at all because captions can be easily entered by the frontend in the right upper corner after you login.

For filenames you can specify the numbers of characters that are truncated in
the configuration: $remove_x_chars_from_filename
