I believe I'm experiencing this problem as well..

I'm running:

Slackware
Joomla Flash Uploader 2.8.1.1
Apache/2.2.4
Joomla! 1.5.6
MySQL 5.0.37
PHP Version: 5.2.3

I've tried changing file permissions and clean installing.

you have a different problem:

Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/var/lib/php)

Check your php settings.

Thank you, that did the trick. You might want to add checking session.save_path in php.ini points to a directory that has actual write access. to the list of reasons to get "undefined" rather than a directory listing.

on to getting it working in the front end.

good point. I'll add this to point 4 where you should check the debug file.

If you are still having issues, I fixed this problem by commenting out the session_path in the php.ini file. It appears to work beautifully now!
