Hi

What would be the best way to use TWG for blogging?

I would like to put a text easily (sometimes more than 10kB) below a picture or a set of pictures. As I see the IPTC is very limited and the image.txt with one description per line seems to be inconvenient as well.

There is a mode 2 (php) that I don't really get. I have no experience in php. I just want to link an individual description file (txt file) to every image. Best would be the description is just a plain text file which is automatically reread during displaying the appropriate image, so I can edit it via FTP anytime.

Is that possible with TWG at all?

Thanks!

yes.

if you see
http://www.tinywebgallery.com/demo

there I use a image.txt which loads a file for each image. And the filename is <imagename>.txt

So mode 2 is what you need. At the link you can download this example. Thie only "issue" is that for german and the english 2 different modes are used. You should take a look at the en version.

But if you only want to add a caption - why don't you not simply use the caption functionality? Then you can enter text online. The only restriction isthat you cannot really format the text because there I only allow very few html tags.

Thank you for your reply, I will look to the example. It looks like what I am looking for. :)

Well, first I like the option to display a caption AND a description but more important for me is the organization: one image - one description in the SAME folder and best as a simple txt file. Best would be IN the picture but there is no really standard for the future and the kB is limited as well. Furthermore it's not automatically reread after a change, is it?

The embedded text of a picture.

As I understand, TWG has to extract and separately save the embedded text BEFORE displaying. So if I change the embedded text in a picture and just replace it on the server the changed text would not be visible without taking further action.

But it doesn't matter because the 2kB limit for the IPTC description field and probably for the Exif as well is far too limited for the purpose of blogging anyway. I would need/want at least 16kB for a description.

iptc data is only read one and then stored in the xml - so using image.php which is loading you descriptions files should work fine.
