I have it working now. I'm still now sure how the different profiles are to behave. I have 2 public frontend profiles.

1 is an administrator - full permissions, upload, download, delete, rename, etc..

2 is a client - upload and delete only.

Maybe I'm just getting confused with the different profile settings, but they both behave the same way whether or not I turn the download button off.

It is working now (I had the admin download not turned on apparently). I do have the client download turned off, but they can still download so I don't know what takes precedence.

So you have 2 profiles and it seems that only one is used? Have you defined a group or two independant profiles?

Yes I have two profiles one is clients with user cpiclient
the other is administrators with three users in the Users Tab.

In the config tab Group id clients with profile id 2 with users cpiclient
Group id administrators with profile id 3 with 3 users admin, cpilasalle and ivmgmt. All are enabled, administrator profile is master. I also have the profile id 1 group id blank for the original admin profile.

Clearly there are two profiles in the config. If I click the clients and disable download, then login to the administrator, the download button doesn't show event thought the administrator download button is enabled.[/img]

You have 2 profiles for the frontend and 2 different group ids?

Please check the howto about groups. Because groups you can actually use to join e.g. 2 profiles to one group.
Having 2 groups with only one profile each does not make sense.

Groups are actually indented that you have one menu item and depending on the users you access the page the assigned profile is used.
