Is there a limit on the picture bit depth?

I have several pictures that will not display - some of them are showing up in the error log as corrupt, even though they display fine with other tools. The only thing I see that's different between them and other photos is that they were probablys scanned since they have fairly low resolution for the file size (640x480 at about 900KB) because their bit depth is at 24b!

The pictures display fine with any browser or photo manager, just not through TWG...

TWG uses the default php gd-lib library. Since version 2.0 24 bit images should be supported. You can try to use image magick...

Apologies for the newbie questions, but:

You wrote, "Since 2.0"? I'm running 1.8 which seems to be the latest - unless you mean the TFU/JFU uploader? Does this mean I have to reinstall those at a later version and re-upload the images?

I looked up Image Magick in the "how to" and set the parameter, but nothing changed and there are no new logged errors. Can you point me to a better reference on where to find this software?

with 2.0 I mean gdlib.

call info.php - there you see if image magick is available on your server.

http://www.metrowesthog.com/Gallery/info.php

...says that Image Magick is available

...also that GD lib is 2.0.34

Memory Limit, etc is all set for large images per another FAQ/"how to" I found on this site...

Maybe my problem is not the bit depth then?

check the log file. You have a couple of image gd-lib is not able to process. Best is to open it in a image editor and save it there again.

Those errors were about a week old and referred to only one picture. I cleared the error log and the cache and tried again, including re-loading the picture files.

I still see the same issues, but the log has not been re-created. I also see other thumbnails (and pictures) that are just a red "X", yet if I go through the admin panel, there's a thumbnail there and I also can open it in the browser directly.

The thumbnails don't seem to have the correct file name, either - it's truncated with the characters missing from the FRONT of the file name...

Do you think the installation may be corrupt?

does an image work if you resave it in a image editor?

Corrupt installations are very seldom if you don't get an error message. IT seems more one of the server settings does somehow not fit..

I've tried a couple of images, but I get the same results - not sure how to send you screen shots, but in one folder I have the first and last images with corrupt file names - but if I look in the admin panel the names are fine and it even displays a thumbnail.

I don't know how to send you pictures through this interface.

This is the link -- the first picture should be "Raffe Khazadian - 2004 Classic.jpg" not "adian - 2004 Classic" -- the last picture is the same way... There are several folders like this in some shape or form...

I can't give you a direct link to the admin panel, but the admin panel shows these as correct and even displays the thumbnail.

Can you send me the file by e-mail. The strange thing is that not even the size of the file can be read on the info page.

Have you tried to enable image magic?

Just realized I never responded to the Magic question - Aside from adding the parm:

$use_image_magic=true;

Is there anything else I need to do?
