The funny thing is it's not consitant, I had an image that was 1024 by 768 that was doing this earlier, and it would not display till I made it 800 by 600

it depends of the compression of your jpeg file.
the gdlib uncomresses the file for processing. Therefore there is no fixed size where you can tell what is working.

I do have 32 MB - There I haven't found images that don't work.
with 16 MB normally images with > 2000x? have problems.
But as I said before - it depends on the image.

you can see the uncomressed size in most image programs.
