I have a problem getting the random image properly working, without adding a specific album.

I have used the example for version 1.6 from the faq:

src="http://my_own_domain/twg/image.php?twg_album=&twg_random=1&twg_type=random&twg_random_size=640&twg_random_subdir=true">

I get a message "check album parameter".

when I add an album behind "twg_album=" it works ok.

check the examples folder.

There is a overview.htm - copy it to the main folder - then you get it like in the demo.
Do you get a log file.

just to add:
after copying the overview.htm, I also get the same "check album parameter" within the main folder of the gallery

The remark about "protected folders" became the key to solve my problem.

in the past I have been testing with a "private.txt" file to protect some folders. During this testing I also made a "private.txt" file within the main folder "./pictures".

This private.txt in the main folder is ignored when I access my webgallery, but apparently the random function does not.

Looking at this behaviour I have the following: why is private.txt ignored within the main folder?
When it is not ignored, I can protect all of my albums by just having this private.txt in there.

good point - I don't have a general login yet.

I like the idea and will add this to 1.7 ;).

I give up, I need help :oops:

I've tried everything I can think of and some random things no one COULD think of. I've read this thread and THAT made me realize a few obvious errors I had made... but it's still not working....

<a href ='#removed_broken_linkshowroom/index.php?twg_random=1'>
<img src="#removed_broken_linkshowroom/image.php?twg_album=#removed_broken_linkshowroom/index.php?twg_album=Malerier%2FJulie+Seabrook&twg_show=x|zzz&twg_random=1&twg_type=random&twg_random_size=100">
</a>

...the question is why...?

this cannot work!

the src you have to use is:

#removed_broken_linkshowroo ... m_size=100

paste it in the browser - then you wee a new image every time ;).

It worked !!!

But how do I make it change in random between every catagory?

This is the main overview of all the different catagories:

#removed_broken_link

?

by rading the whole howto - there is an extra parameter to go through all subfolders too ;).

I already played with twg_random_subdir=true before I wrote in this thread, without making it work.

When I add it now, nothing changes, cause there are no subfolders in "julie Seabrook". I've tried changing the src by copy/pasting the url from the showroom/Malerier folder, but I can't make it work?

What's wrong:
<a href ='#removed_broken_linkshowroom/index.php?twg_random=5'>
<img src="#removed_broken_link?twg_album=Malerier&twg_random=1&twg_type=random&twg_random_size=175_random_subdir=true">
</a>

(My structure: twg=showroom - showroom has 7 subfolders (different catagories of art) each catagory has subfolders with different artists.)

Since it seems to require a "twg_album" is it possible to make the random picture be selected from the main folder "showroom"[twg] ?

I would like to show a random picture on my frontpage from anywhere inside the twg album. I've tried pasting the 7 different url links with "|" between but no luck. I hope to be in a situation where new artists are added all the time. That's why I hope to make it show a random picture from the main folder, so I don't have to configure each time I add a new artist.

I can't make it work if I simply write twg_album=Malerier:
src="#removed_broken_linkshowroom/image.php?twg_album=Malerier&twg_show=x&twg_random=1&twg_type=random&twg_random_size=175_random_subdir=true">
</a>

I just found out why a lot of my experiments has not worked. The artist I was using had an "ø" in his name! I had to unicode my frontpage before it worked :)

I still can't do the "|" trick and apply different folders, nor can I make it simply choose from the "Malerier" folder inside "showroom".

It would be fine if I could give it an adress for each of the 7 subfolders inside "showroom" because they are not going to change, but the subfolders inside (hopefully) are going to be constantly evolving.

Can you simpy try to use the correct syntax?

#removed_broken_linkshowroo ... ubdir=true

works fine.

The
&twg_random_subdir=true
was in your case
_random_subdir=true
