Hi, I'm a fairly long-time user of TWG and until now, I had a camera that oriented the pictures for me. (Ah, that was nice!). Now I have to do it manually after I have them on the PC. For this, I use Irfanview to quickly go through, flip, and resave them...but!

When I upload a picture that I reoriented with Irfanview, it appears in the original orientation on Tiny Web Gallery. I tested it with other programs -- such as Photoshop, but it does the same thing. I'm not sure where it gets the original orientation data, as it is reset by the various programs (I checked each time).

Does anyone know how to get around this?

Do you mind tellin' me where you found that? I looked in the faqs and config (before and just now) as well as searched for orientation on the forums, and still don't see anything about that.

I just searched the options when I had the same problem.

It loooks like TWG is reading the EXIF setting where the camera says it was rotated when the picture was taken, and then it rotates the picture accordlingy.

If you rotate the picture in your computer before uploading it, the EXIF information will still be the same, so TWG doesn't know you already rotated it and it will rotate it again.

Disabling that option tells TWG no to touch the picture, even though the EXIF says it should be rotated.

Actually I believe TWG and Photoshop have the right behavior, keeping the picture as it was saved by the camera and showing it rotated accordlingly to the EXIF information. However I also rotate and save my pictures because unfortunately Windows Photo Gallery is not that smart.

Ahh, I was thinking Irfanview's "Reset EXIF orientation tag" option would take care of that...and I thought it did from when I was checking it. Hmm, I'll have to check again... anyhow, thanks for the info!

In the next small update i'll set the default back to
$autorotate_images = '';

Which setting do you mean in IrvanView?

When you save an image (or do the batch conversion), it has a mark for "Reset EXIF orientation tag"...which sounds to me like it should do the trick!

I took a pic to clarify, but after a few minutes of trying to malform the web address, I give up. That's a good detection expression...!

Found it - i'll have to check this. Because IrvanView automatically rotates the images too.
